Tumors of the spinal cord are diagnosed increasing due to the nature of problems they cause.
These tumors can affect the spinal cord from the neck downwards upto the tail bone region. Spinal tumors can grow within the matter of spinal cord ( intra-medullary), or may grow within the spinal canal and press the spinal cord ( intra dural extra medullary). Majority of these tumors are non -cancerous (benign)
These tumors commonly manifest has arm/leg pain or weakness, changes in walking style or complaints with passing urine or stools.
Microsurgical excision of these tumors remains the gold standard treatment. It is effective and offers complete relief from symptoms if done early in the course of disease.
